DiBiase, Janne Staats
Born in Ashland, Ohio on January 9, 1954, Janne passed away on January 22, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Mike; and her three children, Greg, Amy and Laura. Janne lived most of her life in the South Bay, and was totally dedicated to her family and to the cause of education. A graduate of Torrance High School, she attended UCLA, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a teaching credential. She taught third grade gifted students for seven years in Paramount, California, winning numerous awards for teaching excellence. With the birth of her children, she retired from teaching to devote her full time and energy to her children and their education. A "super-mom", she was very active in the Alta Vista Elementary School community, serving as class parent for nearly all of her children's classes and eventually becoming PTA President. She was instrumental in setting up the first computer lab at Alta Vista. She continued her educational involvement when her children moved to Rolling Hills Prep School and was a well liked and respected contributor to that community throughout her children's middle and high school careers. As the children grew up, she looked for new educational challenges and returned to teaching at Peninsula Heritage School in Palos Verdes where she taught fourth grade until her health issues forced her retirement. Janne will long be remembered by the children she taught, by the friends of her own children who considered her a second mom, and by the many people who got to know her through professional, volunteer and personal relationships. She will be missed. A private family service was held for Janne.
